Through an innovative initiative, the brand Alba Silk Deco has demonstrated that a butterfly's wingbeat can indeed alter the course of change and drive the economic development of an entire region. The company is the first and only one in North Africa to produce raw natural silk.
In the organic mulberry fields of Beni M’Tir in Northwest Tunisia, Alba Silk has developed a silkworm farm that serves as the foundation for a project focused on the production of silk cocoons and the transformation of this material into a new ecological fabric.

Traditionally, silk production involves energy-intensive industrial processes that are harmful to the environment. The two agronomist founders of the brand conceived an innovative and entirely artisanal technique to produce pure silk lace directly from the silk cocoon. They worked to train and mobilize local artisans across an entire value chain, from silkworm farming to silk lace production and its natural dyeing using saffron, henna, and bougainvillea flowers. The newly created material is then sent to the research and development center at Sadika space in Gammarth, where designers and artisans have created an entire collection of lighting fixtures and decorative objects, combining blown glass or hammered copper with the delicacy of silk lace.
