TUNISIAN CRAFTSMANSHIP: EXCELLENCE OF TUNISIAN KNOW-HOW
Tunisia is undoubtedly the country of craftsmanship par excellence. Professional activities in this sector, one of the most dynamic in the Tunisian economy, are among the oldest and most widespread throughout the country.
Craftsmanship generates 300,000 jobs and accounts for 4% of the GDP and approximately 2.5% of national exports. It represents 11% of the active population, with 85% being women. The sector creates 5,000 jobs per year. Handicrafts are the artistic expression of the rich traditions and culture of an entire people. In Tunisia, a country shaped by the influences of numerous successive civilizations, craftsmanship has, over the centuries, absorbed skills from various traditions and cultures, resulting in a rich and diverse artisanal heritage that harmoniously blends Africa, the East, and the West.
Tunisian craftsmanship is highly diverse and extends across the entire country. Each of the 24 governorates has its own local characteristics, both in terms of trades and products: more than 75 different activities, ranging from the most traditional to the most modern, including artistic creation. This diversity in artisanal production allows everyone to build their future based on their abilities.
